Five Artists Occupying Your Computer
One image shows a bright green, unyielding fist reaching upwards, surrounded by the words “Power” and “Peace” written vertically down each side. In another image, a similar fist plunges down into icy waters from an ice-island encampment labeled “Zuccotti.” The camps may have cleared out, but many artists are now ‘occupying’ their computers, creating this new kind of political art for the Occupy movement defined by its digitalization. This digitalization manifests itself both in the way the images are created, and their ability to reach an unprecedented audience through blogs and websites. It also becomes evident in the content of the pieces themselves.
